I once carried some valuable jewellery half way round the world.

My wife and I were going to New Zealand. Friends of ours in England were wanting to send something – I think it was a necklace – to another part of the family. They didn’t want to entrust it to the ordinary mail, so they asked us if we would take it and deliver it for them. This was in the days before the airlines were quite so suspicious about people transporting packages on behalf of others, but even so we were alarmed: what if it got lost on the way? But we knew and liked the people, and agreed. Fortunately the jewellery made the journey with us safe and sound and was delivered at the other end...
