Description

The Triumphant Reign of Grace
ROMANS 5.18-21

God has done it; God will do it. That is the message of this dramatic little passage, summing up the whole story of the letter so far.

That might sound strange, since the word ‘God’ doesn’t occur in these verses. But what Paul has done is, if anything, even more effective. In speaking of the result of the act of Jesus in verses 18 and 19, and in speaking of ‘grace’ in verses 20 and 21, he has pointed towards the God whose saving plan has now been put into effect. Like a good storyteller, he has left us to imagine for ourselves the one who could plan something like this and bring it off, the one whose hidden name is ‘grace’..
