MARK 9.14–29
The Demon-Possessed Boy...

...Our mountain walk started quite easily. We strolled along the first mile or two, following the red flashes of paint on nearby rocks, which marked the route. Only a gentle incline; we didn’t even break into a sweat. We began to notice, little by little, that we were going uphill; we were even tempted, once or twice, to stop for a short rest. There was a steep drop away to our right, and a wall of rock to our left, but it didn’t seem too dangerous.

But then, suddenly, we turned a corner; and there before us, with a red flash teasing us at the top, was a terrifying 100-foot wall of sheer rock. An old wire rope ran up it, beside a very rudimentary wooden ladder. If we wanted to go any further on this walk, it was time for summoning up new courage and energy. We took a deep breath...
