Monologue: Hannah reflects

When all you long for is a child of your own, then you see them everywhere. Other women seem to have no problem conceiving and bringing a child into the world. All around are families – some happy, some argumentative, some with no control at all – but families. The ache inside is often unbearable and the urge to be shut away from others to avoid the pain is so strong that accusations are made about unsociability and depression.

Is it any wonder that depression strikes? The one thing that is unique to women – that of carrying a child from conception to birth - is being denied and the denial can make the need stronger than ever.

Why me? I would be a good mother. And when I see the way some children are neglected, or abandoned, it only increases the agony of longing.
