One of the symptoms or effects of depression is that we can become extremely self-centred, tending to think that everything is about us and not in a good way. If we phone someone and they don’t ring back it’s because they don’t want to speak to us, if we see someone in town and they don’t stop for a chat they’re avoiding us, if a friend doesn’t comment on our new hairstyle they don’t like it or think we’re ugly. And so on! We find it hard to believe that there might be reasons for these things that have nothing to do with us. As we move away from the early days of depression we will probably see the funny side of this and resume more realistic thinking, accepting that we’re not the centre of everyone else’s world...
