Proper 22

Mark 10: 2-16

Gaze on a wedding photograph, and see all the families gathered together, the generations, from great grandmother in a wheelchair to toddler running around collecting the confetti. Gaze on the bride and groom. These days they are unlikely to be blushing, embarrassed or innocent. They may have been living together for years and even have children already. But listen to the promises they have made. Whatever has happened in the past and whatever might go wrong in the future, both the man and the woman are each placing all their hope and trust in the hands of another person. They are making themselves utterly vulnerable to the other. They are making a huge leap of faith. It is as brave as placing our faith in God...
