The dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial was scheduled this weekend in Washington (but a threatened hurricane has caused a delay in this event). Inevitably, perhaps, there’s some difference of opinion about whether it is the right sort of memorial or whether any memorial of this kind is an appropriate commemoration of this man. What strikes me as I think about Psalm 52 is that Dr. King was someone who knew he was confronted by people who planned and did evil against him and other African Americans, but he stood tall when threatened by them. Somehow he managed to be realistic about the danger that threatened him and also trust in God...
