Uncaring. Unfeeling. Dispassionate. Heartless. Utterly devoid of care. The wide open eyes convey a bleak message: only dummies can't care less.

And as I read Jesus' brief parable of the Pharisee and tax collector this is what I hear as his intention as he addresses the disconnected, effortlessly superior, down-the-nose elitism of those who regarded others with contempt. Only dummies can't care less than you lot. And you are a bunch of dummies for getting the faith so spectacularly wrong.
