What happened on that day of Pentecost, two thousand years ago?

The word Pentecost just means 50 days after Passover, but – interestingly – what was celebrated by Jews on the day of Pentecost each year was the wheat harvest; it was one of the harvest festivals in their religious calendar and it was sometimes referred to as the day of first fruits. I don’t suppose it was for nothing that God chose that day for the birth of his Church, for of course it became a day of spiritual harvest - the first disciples and those who were converted on that day were indeed the first fruits of the Kingdom...
