Meditation-  20th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
1st Kings 2: 10-12 and 3 v 3-14 Psalm 111 Ephesians 5: 15-20 John 6: 51-58 

It was almost like a fairy story; God told Solomon to ask for whatever he wanted (1st Kings 3 v 5) but, contrary to most fairy stories, it didn’t go wrong. In a story I heard at infants’ school a man squandered his three wishes – granted him by a fairy whom he had rescued - first in wishing for a sausage as long as his arm, then – when his wife berated him – by wishing for the gigantic sausage to be stuck to her nose; finally he used his remaining wish to restore his wife to normal...
