2nd Samuel 1: 1, 17-27 Psalm 130 2nd Corinthians 8: 7-15 Mark 5: 21-43

During his earthly life, Jesus wielded both power and compassion in perfect tension. Power and compassion are two qualities which work well in combination; in fact neither is of much benefit without the other. Probably you have experienced the frustration of feeling enormous compassion in a situation, but being powerless to do anything about it. Power without compassion is worse though. There are many individuals who have great power but it seems that as people gain power, any compassion they did possess fades, and ruthlessness takes its place. Throughout the centuries, this has been demonstrated by kings, military leaders, politicians, heads of industry and those possessed of huge wealth. Even church leaders have not remained immune...
