Reflection/drama: Psalm 72 for today

(can be read by several voices, but will work best with at least two)

‘He will judge in righteousness. He will defend the afflicted. He will save the children of the needy. He will crush the oppressor. He will be like showers watering the earth.’

And today his children cry out, ‘Will he do that? But when will he come? We need him now.’

And the religious ones reply, ‘You missed him. He came 2000 years ago and you ignored him. He will come again, but it will be the end of everything when he does.’

And the questioning ones cry out, ‘but we were told that he is still alive in the world today. If that is so, where is he?’

And the cynics reply, ‘the world has moved on. We don’t need that kind of man today. We manage our own affairs and we direct our own destiny. The rest is all empty dreaming with no substance.’
