Prayers of intercession written for Martin Luther King Day
These prayers were written for chapel worship at Martin Luther King House, Manchester, January 2013

Challenging and Inspiring God,
who has raised up men and women through whom your voice
has been heard and your love has been shown, we thank you for
the life, work and words of Martin Luther King.  May his faithful
and courageous witness encourage and strengthen our prayers
and actions for a just and fair world where the crooked roads will
be made straight and justice will flow like a river.
We pray for those pushed to the edge of society, unable to work
or find work, those who find their colour, ethnicity, gender or
disability judged before their character or ability.  As the church,
we repent of our complicity in this marginalisation and commit
ourselves to the dream of Martin Luther King of a world where
difference is respected and inequality is challenged.
