ONE DAY AT A TIME
Meditations for Carers

26. Someone to lean on

Proverbs 3.5
Isaiah 26.4

Watching television the other day, I was reminded about the fashion for outdoor artificial ice rinks. I love to watch how someone goes on the ice for the first time, very wobbly, but then a friend comes alongside, takes the learner’s arm and together they step out. Gradually the new skater learns balance and confidence and soon they’re gliding along.

It came to me that life for a carer is a bit like an ice rink. We step out, unsure and very wobbly. We fall over and have lots of bumps. But God asks us to lean on him – and then it gets a little easier. I won’t say we glide off in carefree beauty but it does get better! We’ll get there and though life is slippery, we have a Friend to lean on. He’s just waiting...
