Meditation: Majestic God - Psalm 97
(97:1) The LORD is king! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!
(97:2) Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(97:3) Fire goes before him, and consumes his adversaries on every side.
Wait a minute! That’s like something nasty out of 'Lord of the Rings', some Goliath, some fire breathing, destructive tyrant.
And this is you, God?
Power and authority? Yes, but this picture doesn't feel right.
Holy God, almighty and majestic, with power to build up or destroy...
