Mark 1.40-45

Gaze on this man, whom we know nothing about, except that he is a leper. We don’t know whether he’s old or young, rich or poor. Once someone was labelled ‘leper’, that was all that was important, and their individual identity was lost. His body and limbs are distorted and covered with sores. Walking is painful and he is frightened and lonely every day of his life, for he is an outcast. He is used to begging, for that’s the only way he can survive. But this particular leper has heard that Jesus has amazed the crowds by his cures. So he has no pride, and decides he’ll beg once more, this time for a cure...
