Description

A Judas monologue -

Judas 'standing at a distance' watching the death throes of Jesus on the cross. Holding in one hand (or miming) a coin, and in the other a piece of bread (as from the Last Supper).

Can be read from a central lectern, or acted without a lectern!!):

My two hands held out, bread and coins...
See, Jesus! I am like you! These are the signs.

We are going to die, all of us. The Romans won't wait any longer
Now that they have taken him we are all in danger.
It won't be any good, then, pretending we weren't there;
They know what we intended, they know who we are...
They know who I am ‚ (Judas looks at the coin)

I wonder what it's really worth?
Thirty of them. I know this, it won't buy my freedom.
That would cost the earth.

The Priests aren't going to bother protecting me when the soldiers come.
Why should they? They called me to a hard word, for the rest they're dumb.
As far as they're concerned I'm just another trouble-maker.
My betrayal means nothing to them. I am their 'dishonest broker'!
