There is a poignant movie called James’ Journey to Jerusalem about a young Zulu who has been designated to be his village’s next pastor. If it were the West he would be sent to seminary, but the village decides that the best way to prepare him for his vocation is to send him on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. He gets to Tel Aviv all right, but from then on the journey turns out to be daunting and fraught with danger, and much of the suspense of the movie relates to the uncertainty about whether he will ever get there. The villagers and James knew there was something significant about Jerusalem, not because it is inherently a particularly beautiful or important location but because of the significance that God had given it. God had agreed to dwell there, and Jesus had died and risen there...
