I’ve just been reading a Darfuri refugee’s account of how he came to be in a camp in Chad. As a farmer in Sudan he was tortured by the application of a clothes iron to his back, his legs, his hands, and his head because the members of one of the militias had determined to take over his land. So that is how he “lost his life” in Sudan, as he put it. Despite the pain he was in, he walked the three hundred miles to the border between Sudan and Chad, thanking God that he was able to get there but was told initially that the refugee camp was closed. “Life seems to be darkness to me,” he said...
