Drama/monologue: I own the sheep!

How dare they leave my sheep like that?

And in the middle of the night, just at the time when all the wild animals are on the prowl and the sheep need most protection! That’s what I pay them for, isn’t it? That’s why they’re out there in the fields at all hours of the day and night. They’re supposed to keep the fire going in the dark. And they’re supposed to be watching out for wolves and stopping those silly sheep from straying.

But what did they do last night? You wouldn’t believe it, unless I told you myself, but last night they all abandoned the fire and the sheep and they ran off down to the inn in the town. And they tried to claim that they never drank a drop of ale all the time they were there!

Unbelievable! They certainly looked drunk to the neighbour who reported them to me. He said they were shouting and singing and celebrating all the way back up the hillside. He said you couldn’t help but hear them, they were making such a noise that a lot of people were woken up by them. Of course, they tried to tell me that they’d never drunk a drop. Did I believe them? Well, what do you think?
