Meditation on John 11: 1-45

Gaze on a deathbed. Often today
this is in hospital, a curtained bed
where relatives huddle and whisper;
other people avert their eyes when
they pass by, afraid to intrude.
Watch while the loved one’s breath
ebbs away. Listen to the effort of
the lungs, gasping for air. The
person’s face is etched with the
pain of breathing, their skin pallid
