Description

A short drama for 4 actors (2 or 3 M, 1 or 2 F). Illustrates wide and narrow paths as choices of path on a holiday island. While Adam and Barbara climb the narrow way to a martyr's shrine, hedonist Dean and his companion ignore the guidebook and keep to the beach - with disasterous consequences. Best in a venue with space to move around and use different levels. Needs actors with some experience to carry the change of mood.

Loosely based on Matthew 7 v13,14 (the wide and narrow way). Starts with light tone and gets menacing
towards the end. Best in a venue with space to move around, and ideally a balcony.

C&D seated at table at front drinking.  A&B enter, not seeing them at first, then go across when called.

and?
D Claire

A sits at table

B Pleased to meet you.  I’ll go to the bar while you catch up with

B gets tray of bottles, then joins others at table

A We’re going up to St Lucia’s shrine.
C Where’s that?
B [pointing]  On that cliff over there.  Apparently Lucia was thrown off it to her death.
C Gruesome.  Had she cheated on her lover or something?
B Nothing like that – she was an early Christian martyr.
D Everyone to his own taste.  We’re keeping to the lower road –
going over to the Fantasia Club on the headland there.  Adam,
what on earth have you done to your face?  You’ll have a really
sinister scar by the time you get back to work.

Adam touches scratch on cheek.

A The path up from the town was rather overgrown – the brambles were quite vicious.
B Not to mention the mud as we passed the sewage works.

C moves further away from her

D But why go to all that trouble?  We came out of town on the tram, so we’ve only got a mile or so to walk now – and we’ll get a taxi back.  The Fantasia Club beach parties are famous. ...
