Luke 19: 1-10


He was a collaborator, that’s what everyone was saying: He was devout and highly influential … in the Roman tax collecting business at least. But he was a collaborator, that’s what he was, a traitor to his own people, they said. I could understand why they felt like that; I felt a bit like that when Jesus brought Matthew to join our happy little band of followers. It didn’t seem right to have a tax collector joining the disciples of the most exciting Rabbi the country had ever seen; but that’s Jesus for you, always reaching out to touch the untouchable...
