Habakkuk 1.1-4; 2.1-4

For there is still a vision for the appointed time;?   it speaks of the end, and does not lie.? If it seems to tarry, wait for it;?   it will surely come, it will not delay.

A prayer for patience and impatience.

O Lord, how long shall we cry for help,? and you will not listen?
Like your Prophet, we are confronted with a violent world,
we see suffering and cruelty and feel overwhelmed.

The images on our TV screens are relentless,
the radio sounds a claxon horn of warning and despair.

In the midst of all this, we worry about our church.
Things have changed and continue to change.
We are not sure what direction to turn,
we look for signs of your handiwork, o Lord
and are not sure that we can see them.

Help us to be patient. Help us to have a vision for the appointed time.
Help us to be confident of your enduring love and transforming presence in our world.

But never let our patience ...

 Amen
