A CHRISTMAS EVOCATION
Come, then, and let us journey, you and I, through the dark years,
Down through the long, black vistas of human being,
Through the long night of our time.
This is Christmastide in a dark world.
This time is now:
Look carefully, and you will see that a pall of smoke hangs above the narrow streets of Bethlehem.
And you will see that tanks have trained their guns on ordinary people who have cowered in terror in
the shadows.
Look again, and listen, and you will see and hear the bulldozers levelling their homes.
And you will hear these people being pacified with rockets and shells,
And with peace on earth, good will to all men.
A dark world, and a world seeking darkness.
