Why put our faith in transient things

Why put our faith in transient things,
satanic mills of industry,
the wealth that we accumulate,
or even churches' history?
The rites that we revere and praise,
the hymns we sing, the prayers we pray,
the actions we see as divine
were human in another day.

These things of flesh, of our design,
have no more worth because of age,
we need to look beyond our span,
a different play, another stage.
For out of time, beyond our place,
transcending values, time and space,
a spirit heard, a still small voice,
speaks of a higher gift than grace.

Verse 3 follows

Tune: JERUSALM (Parry)
