Now listen well to what we say;
the birth of Christ took place this way:
the Child we gladly call the Lord
has come fulfilling prophets’ word.
Now mark and learn the meaning well
of God with us‚ Emmanuel,
foretold in ancient days long past‚
who‚ Virgin-born‚ appears at last.
Now love him well who bears the Name,
revealed when once an angel came
to Joseph in the dead of night
and urged him not to live in fright.
