Cedars of Lebanon, oaks of old England, elegant poplars along country roads,

trees mark a heritage, hope for the future,
holding our history and bearing our loads.

Hurricanes harass these trees by uprooting
years of their growing, investment and toil,
earthquakes unsettle the things that seem stable,
buildings are crumbling, while rock turns to soil.

Here in the winds and the power of the oceans,
trees stripped of leaves and the shorelines engorged:
nature seems wild and without comprehension
people are questioning faith You once forged.
